Paint Colours - Tips for Choosing

E-mail
Although you might like black and white photography, the world would be a pretty boring place without colour. The colours we choose to surround ourselves with have the power to influence our mood, motivate us, and create a space in which we truly feel comfortable. If you're thinking about repainting some of the rooms of your home or office, you might think that basic white is the only colour that will truly go with everything. However, there are plenty of other paint colours that could breathe fresh air into your building and help to create a space that will encourage you to be productive and happy.

In case you've never chosen new paint colours for a home or building before, you might be overwhelmed by all the brand and colour variations that are available to you. If you've come home more than once from the hardware store with dozens of paint chips and samples and you still haven't been able to make a decision, here are some tips that could make the process a little bit easier to get through. First, it can help to think about what the room is going to be used for so that you know which tones to avoid. If you're planning to paint a room, it's important to gather samples of as many of the other decorations as possible. If you're not yet sure what colour or pattern the rug, bedspread, and lamps are going to have yet, you should know that it's too soon to think about paint colours. The paint on your walls is the cheapest and easiest thing to change. It's important that you choose the paint to match the other areas of décor, and not the other way around.

Of course, it's always important to be patient when choosing paint colours. Lighting, both day and night, makes a big difference in how you view the colour. The shade that you love in the hardware store might look completely different when you spread it on your living room walls and turn all the lights on. When you find a colour that you really love, take a small sample home and spread it on a small section of the wall. Even though it looks funny, leave it there for a few days, and note how you feel about it in the morning, noon and night. If you don't hate it after a few days, there's a good chance you've found your colour.
